Wendigo for Beaumanoir

On continue avec les masques, cette fois-ci pour la prochain vidéo-clip de Beaumanoir.
Le réalisateur souhaitait 3 masques : deux cerfs humanoïdes, le premier avec de petites cornes symbolisant un père et le second avec de plus longues cornes, représentant son fils. Le dernier masque est une version simplifiée de ces deux masques avec moins de détails. 
L'idée était d'en faire des soldats à l'image du Cerf-fils, tyran et dictateur dans le vidéo-clip qui dispose de sa propre armée.
J'ai d'abord réalisé un prototype blanc.

Let's keep up with the masks, this time for Beaumanoir's upcoming video-clip. 
The director wanted me to make three masks : two human stags, one with short antlers (a father) and one with longer antlers (his son). The third masks is a simplified version of these, reducing the details around the eye and the mouth areas. 
The idea was to make a soldier looking mask as the "son" in the video-clip is some kind of dictator and has his own army. 
I first made a white prototype.

Rusted King

Toujours dans une tentative d'expérimentation avec peinture, j'ai réutilisé mon cerf en papier pour tenter de lui donner une finition métallisée. 
Après avoir peint la sculpture en noir, j'ai appliqué de la peinture argentée en utilisant la méthode de dry brush.

Oui, j'aime beaucoup les cerfs. 
Cette sculpture était à gagner dans un tombola organisée au cours d'une soirée caritative pour récolter des fonds pour la Ligue contre le Cancer, plus d'infos ici !

I used a previous paper stag I made to keep on experimenting painting techniques. This time, I tried to make it looks like it wad made out of metal. 
After painting it with a few coats of black, I dry brushed it with silver paint.

This sculpture was the prize in a tombola we organised during a charity event to raise money for the League against Cancer, more infos here !

Dans la lignée de mes cadres en relief, je suis fier de vous présenter mon dernier travail. J'ai la chance d'être l'invité Do it Youself du mois de Septembre avec Mademoisellebox (je vous laisse regarder par vous-même le concept sur leur site). 
Au sein de plusieurs accessoires et autres goodies présent dans la box Colonel Moutarde,  je vous accompagne ainsi à l'aide d'un petit guide pour réaliser votre propre cadre, arborant un superbe cerf en relief aux couleurs de la box de ce mois-ci, bleu marine et jaune moutarde.

Following my work on relief frames, I'm proud to introduce you to my latest work. I had the chance to be invited by Mademoisellebox to make the Do it Yourself for the month of september. 
Among others accessories and goodies in the Colonel Mustard box, I'll guide you to make your own frame, with a majestic stag displaying this month colors, blue and yellow.

Je vous avertis, la construction est délicate et va demander patience et minutie. 
Avec la bonne dose de concentration et la bonne tasse de thé pour vous accompagner, le résultat final en vaudra la peine. Après tout un trophée, ça se mérite ;).

I warn you, the assembly is tricky and requires patience and  meticulousness.
With the right amount of concentration and the right cup of tea to assist you, the result will be worthy. After all, you got to deserve that trophy ;)

Première collaboration et très bonne expérience. 
C'est la première fois que j'utilise de la couleur pour réaliser un cadre et je dois dire que le résultat est très intéressant. On perd un peu l'aspect polygonal de la sculpture mais on y gagne un habillage plus élégant, il ne reste plus désormais qu'à trouver le moyen d'associer le meilleurs des deux.

First collaboration and great experience.
This is the first time I use colors to make a frame and I've to say the result looks really promising. The polygonal aspect is less visible but the whole sculpture gets nicely dressed with an elegant design. Now I just have to find a way to get the best of the two.

De retour sur les animaux avec un projet qui me tenait à coeur.
Pour cette prochaine sculpture, j'ai décidé de relever un nouveau défi en réalisant un cerf en papier à échelle réelle, soit environ 1m40 de haut.

Je commence ainsi par le modéliser en 3D. 
Le petit détail qui tue ? Les deux bois sont différents l'un de l'autre. Cela peut sembler insignifiant mais cela participe grandement au "réalisme" de la sculpture.

Back to animals with a project that I really cared about.
For this next sculpture, I decided to take on a new challenge making a full scale stag, standing 4 ft 7 inches high.

I started modeling it in 3D.
Pay attention to the antlers, they are different from one to another. It's a small detail but it participates a lot to the "realism" of the piece. 

Je me retrouve ainsi avec 56 feuilles A4 à découper et plier.
13 : le nombre d'heures qu'il m'a fallut pour en arriver à bout..

Then, I end up with 56 A4 pages to cut and score.

Une fois que toutes les pièces sont rangées et triées, je peux entamer l'assemblage !

Once all the pieces are sorted and organized, I can start assembling the beast !

Les bois sont séparés afin de faciliter le transport et empêcher la sculpture de s'abîmer, étant les pièces les plus fragiles.

The antlers are separate to prevent the sculpture from taking damages, as they are fragile pieces.

Of House Baratheon

C'est de loin la sculpture qui a demandé le plus de travail. Une trentaine d'heures au total réparties sur une semaine. Je suis très satisfait du résultat et je suis persuadé qu'il y a des choses à développer en matière de décoration avec ce genre de sculptures en papier. Une vitrine de Noël par exemple tout en papier donnerait un rendu très intéressant n'est-ce pas ?

Et en prime, une petite vidéo de moi en train d'assembler la bête !

This is by far the most complicated piece I've worked on. Over 30 hours of work spread over a week. I'm really happy with the result and I'm sure there's something to develop in term of decoration with this kind of paper sculptures. A christmas window display all in paper would look incredible right ?

And as a gift, a lil video of me assembling the beast !
