The Dark King Rises

Petite mise à jour sur un ancien projet perso.
J'avais besoin d'un cobaye pour tester les résultats de la peinture en spray sur du papier et j'ai trouvé ma victime qui trainait dans un coin de mon atelier, mon précédent lion en papier.
En fait, j'avais surtout besoin de savoir s'il était nécessaire d'appliquer un apprêt avant de peindre directement sur le papier.
La peinture en bombe ça coûte cher, très cher, du coup si je peux limiter un maximum les frais, ce n'est pas plus mal.
Malheureusement, le résultat n'a pas été très concluant. La peinture a craquée sur l'ensemble de la sculpture.
Elle a cependant créée un motif aléatoire très intéressant.
Je pense que c'est ce que l'on peut appeler un "happy accident" :)

Here a little update on an old project of mine. 
I needed a test subject to see how spray paint would react if I applied it without using primer and I found the perfect victim for this, my old paper lion.
Unfortunately, the result wasn't conclusive. Paint cracked all over the piece but did created a very interesting random pattern.
Guess I witnessed a happy accident here :)

Poster en relief, le retour du roi

On continue avec un nouveau poster en relief.
Pour celui-ci, j'ai retravaillé et simplifié le lion que j'avais précédemment réalisé. 

Le résultat final devait tenir dans un format A4, rendant la sculpture assez difficile à assembler, principalement au niveau de la mâchoire de la bête où les languettes mesuraient moins d'un mm d'épaisseur.

Keep on going with a new relief poster.
For this one, I worked back on and simplified the lion I made.

The final result had to fit on a A4 paper format, making the assembling pretty tricky as the tabs around the jaw ended up really small.

"Dans la jungle, terrible jungle.."

Suite à mon travail avec le T-rex, l'idée d'expérimenter des sculptures d'animaux s'est développée. Le catalogue bestiaire étant indénombrable, il fallait tout d'abord que je détermine mon premier sujet. 

Pour cette sculpture, j'ai souhaité travailler le côté décoratif de l'objet, en en faisant un ornement mural. J'ai ainsi choisi le lion, symbole majestueux et élégant qui se prêtait parfaitement au sujet (ça et aussi parce que c'est quand même cool un lion).

Comme toujours, je commence une modélisation 3D.

After my work on the T-rex, the idea to experiment animal sculptures grew on me. I first needed to chose which one I'll get my hands on.

For this sculpture, I chose to focus on the decorative aspect of the object, making it a wall decor. I picked the lion, majestic and elegant symbol that was perfect for this project (that and the fact that lions are awesome).

As always, I starts from a 3D model.

Une fois satisfait, je peux lancer l'impression et entamer l'assemblage.

Once satisfied, I can turn on the printer and start building the beast.

La structure totale mesure un peu moins de quarante cm de haut et offre un résultat très satisfaisant. 

Il serait intéressant de voir ce que pourrait donner une sculpture de la sorte avec un volume plus important. 

Vous imaginez ce lion en papier occupant l'espace d'un mur tout entier ? 

Moi oui, et je pense que l'effet pourrait être saisissant.

The sculptures was 1ft4 tall and I was very pleased with the result.

It would be interesting to see what this king of sculpture would look in a bigger scale.

Would you imagine this paper lion so big that it would fit an entire wall ?

I do, and I think it would look stunning.
